GTS has an exciting opportunity for a Data Protection Officer to join a well-established organisation in Slough. This is for a 3-month contract.

The place of work will be hybrid. As such, days can be negotiated from home and office.

This role is inside IR35. As a result, this role is suited to umbrella contractors only.

Working as a Data Protection Officer (DPO), you will provide advice on data protection obligations. This will include supporting the completion of Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs). Additionally, you will assist in the monitoring of internal compliance. Above all, you will  act as a contact point for all data related matters. This will be both internally, and for external bodies, specifically the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
As DPO, you  will be able to work on your own initiative. Crucially, you will be an expert in data protection. As such, you will report to the highest management level. Your key objective will be to support the Business to demonstrate compliance, as well as drive through an enhanced focus on accountability.

A SNAPSHOT OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Firstly, you will inform and advise about UK GDPR compliance obligations, together with other data protection laws. As a result, you will monitor compliance to all  such requirements.
Secondly, you will be responsible for data protection polices, as well as managing all internal data protection activities. As a result, you will raise awareness of data protection issues.
Thirdly, you will train staff on data compliance obligations.
Additionally, you will conducting internal audits as well as support and monitor data protection impact assessments.
Above all, you will cooperate with the ICO, so being their first point of contact. Additionally, you will be a contact for individuals whose data is processed, for instance employees, customers etc.
Crucially, you will assess risks of all work being undertaken. As such, you must take into account the nature, scope, context and purposes for the processing of all data.
Lastly, you will prioritise and focus on the more risky activities.  For instance, where special category data is being processed, as well as where the potential impact on individuals could be damaging. In summary, you will provide risk-based advice to the organisation.

IDEALLY, WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE BELOW KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:

Minimum of 2 years experience within a DPO role
Ideally have Local Govt Experience
Extensive knowledge of the Data Protection Act
