System Engineer Jobs: CMDB/Windows System Engineer
This role is hybrid, with 2 to 3 days on site per week in Aldermaston, Reading.
The salary is £34,000.
You must be a British national to apply for this role. This is due to the nature of the client and the clearances required.
Firstly, holding SC or DV clearance is a bonus. Candidates eligible to go through the clearance will also be considered.
We are seeking a Windows System Engineer with an interest in developing a specialism in the areas of Configuration Management, Discovery, and Monitoring. The candidate should have a solid background in Windows Server operating systems and the components that underpin an enterprise size Windows environment. For example, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy etc. They should also have a good understanding of Networking components and topology.
The role will be to support various applications in the CMDB and Monitoring space. Specific application training (a mixture of on the job and formal) will be provided. However, the candidate will also be expected to be an enthusiastic self-learner and be proactive in the development of their knowledge.
Firstly, be an integral member of the team supporting the following applications:
SCOM.
Aternity.
Dynatrace.
Flexera.
uCMDB.
Also, undertake day to day support activities for the applications you are responsible for. For example:
Daily checks.
Regular maintenance.
Application patching.
Certificate updates.
Incident resolution.
Finally, fulfill customer requests related to the applications you are responsible for. Examples could include:
Production of reports.
Amending monitoring of existing systems.
Create monitoring for new systems.
Configuration of CMDB system to discover new CIs.
Partake in projects to upgrade, expand and develop the applications you are responsible for.
Preparation of documentation as necessary ensuring all work instructions and design documents are kept up to date.
Solid background in Windows Server operating systems.
Knowledge of the following Window components:
Active Directory
Group Policy
DNS
DHCP
Windows Firewall
IIS
Certificates
Basic knowledge of Networking components:
Switches
Firewalls
Routers
SNMP
Also, be enthusiastic about developing knowledge and learning best practices in the Configuration Management and Monitoring space.
Finally, have a proven ability to self teach and an ability to get up-to-speed in a short space of time.
Firstly, knowledge of any of the following applications:
SCOM
Aternity
Dynatrace
Flexera
uCMDB
Experience administering SQL databases
Understanding of Microsoft Azure
Any Linux knowledge
Comfortable with agile and waterfall methods of working
Experience in writing technical documentation and work instructions
